  • Description

Now this is a plant with an interesting back story: the plant for sale is a self of a plant originally from Jay Vannini (you can read more about this plant on his website here). Rioclaroense is an unpublished species, related to magnificum and found in Columbia. The rioclaroense x is a wild hybrid - the suspected cross is a species from section xialophyllium. A wild Anthurium hybrid is unusual enough. A cross-sectional wild hybrid is enough to trot out the word 'rare'.

I imported my plants as seeds and they were fairly similar when they were seedlings. As larger plants they're showing some different characteristics. The plant for sale is an offset from my largest and the one showing the most pronounced lobes. The plant this is a clone of is shown in the second to last photo. Pinoydendron's mother plant that was selfed is shown in the last photo.

You don't see this plant very often in the UK and I love the story behind it. It's one for the collectors.

  • Growing conditions

The plant is currently in a propagation tent which sits around 20-24 ºC with humidity around 90% RH. The plant generally appreciates higher humidity. You should still be able to acclimatise down to household conditions once it's established. But be aware it may give you some funky leaves as it gets used to its new conditions.

  • Quality assurance

All plants come with a plant passport or Northern Ireland Plant Health Label. Where necessary plants have been acclimatised after import for at least a month and only listed when they have new growth.
